Academy of Chess offers a one-week summer chess camp, for students in grades 2 through 8. Students from any public, private, or parochial school are welcome to join. Frank Procopio is the primary instructor and has been a certified chess coach with US Chess since 1990. As a substitute teacher in the Pennsylvania public school system, Mr. Procopio maintains the required clearances to work with the students who attend summer chess camp.
Students do not need to know how to play chess before attending. Academy of Chess provides a structured, 10-lesson plan curriculum. The initial lessons teach the names of the pieces, how they move, and how they capture. Subsequent lessons deal with strategy (opening principles and systems) and tactics (pin, fork, double check, discovered check, etc.). Later lessons present advanced concepts such as chess puzzles and check-mating patterns.

Time: 9AM to 11:30AM, Monday through Friday
Location: Bernardine Hall. The entrance to Bernardine Hall is behind the former Saints Peter and Paul School, 13 Hudson Road, Plains.
