Our Mission:
Wyoming Valley Children's Association (WVCA) provides the highest quality early childhood education to ensure the greatest developmental potential of ALL children in partnership with their families, including therapeutic and support services as needed.

About Us:
Founded in 1924 with the support of the Rotary Club of Wilkes-Barre and the Wyoming Valley Community Chest (now the United Way of Wyoming Valley), WVCA is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.   We have evolved from a small orthopedic clinic serving children with polio and rickets to working with children who have developmental challenges, as well as typical children

WVCA currently offers four different programs.  The largest program is our Together We Grow Preschool, licensed by the PA Department of Education State Board of Private Academic Schools, Department of Human Services and is a Keystone STAR 4 Center.  WVCA offers small class sizes for children ages 3 to 6 and blends a population of children with developmental delays with typically developing children in three of our classrooms and offers more specialized education programs in three other classrooms. Each class has low staff-to-child ratios to ensure one-on-one instruction, hands-on learning, and encourage positive social interactions with staff and peers.

The therapeutic services for children are identified through an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and are paid, in part, through the PA Early Intervention Program.  Children who are typically developing attend on a private pay basis and financial aid is available to families in need.  Our preschool curriculum addresses developmental needs including:

  • Cognitive
  • Social/emotional
  • Fine motor
  • Gross motor
  • Adaptive skills
  • Language
  • Positive self-concept
  • Positive behavior

Other WVCA programs include:

  • PA Early Intervention home-based services (children birth through 3 years)
  • Infant and Toddler Programs
  • A CATCH (Childhood Autism Team Check) Clinic in partnership with Geisinger Autism & Developmental Medicine Institute, local behavioral agencies, Early Intervention, and the Hazleton Area School District.  This service is designed to evaluate children who may be at risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • The area’s only Pre-K multisensory room.
  • Therapy including speech, occupational, physical and music services.
