How does it work?
When you call 1-800-222-1222, you are automatically connected to the Poison Center that serves your area. Your call is routed based on the area code and exchange of the phone you call from - or for cell phones, sometimes based on your location.
If you call 1-800-222-1222 from a cell phone, you will reach Poison Control. Depending on your cell phone carrier, you might reach the Poison Center that serves your phone's area code and exchange or the Poison Center that serves your phone's current location. Either Poison Center can help you. If you need local assistance, the Poison Center you reach will coordinate with the other Center to help you get the care and information you need.
What if I prefer to get help online?
If you swallowed a poison and don't have any symptoms, you can use the webPOISONCONTROL® tool to get treatment recommendations. You can log on to webPOISONCONTROL® or download the app on the App Store or Google play for triage advice 24 hours a day.
