Empowering Individuals and Strengthening Families in Northeastern PA

Maternal and Family Health Services (MFHS)

By Maternal and Family Health Services (MFHS) December 13, 2021

Maternal and Family Health Services (MFHS) is an innovative health and human service organization dedicated to meeting the needs of the community through information, education, and quality care. Its extensive, system-wide network covers 17 counties within PA, and more than 90,000 individuals benefit from its services and programs each year.

The most widely recognized MFHS service line is the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program. WIC helps eligible families access nutritionally-sound food, nutrition counseling and breastfeeding support — and with electronic eWIC benefits, it’s never been more convenient. Thousands of people in our area are eligible for WIC benefits but don’t yet know it! Click to learn more about WIC and view WIC eligibility guidelines to see if you or someone you know might qualify.

MFHS also offers free support to moms through the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) program. Through NFP, a nurse remains “paired” with the same individual throughout the entire pregnancy and up to two years after the baby’s birth. Participants receive health-related support, learn helpful parenting skills and more at no cost. Click to learn more about MFHS’ Nurse-Family Partnership program.

At MFHS’ Circle of Care location, 640 Madison Avenue, Scranton, prenatal and postpartum care is provided to pregnant individuals. Patients rave about the Oh Baby! Incentive program — participants get free diapers and gear for keeping appointments — and they can easily enroll in Healthy Beginnings Plus, Nurse-Family Partnership, WIC and more. New patients are always welcome, and if someone thinks they may be pregnant but aren’t yet sure, they can visit the Scranton office and request a free, confidential pregnancy test. MFHS is currently running a limited time Send a Friend promotion where new maternity patients receive a $50 VISA® gift card and the person who referred them receives a $50 VISA® gift card, too! Click here to learn more about Send a Friend.

Along with supporting healthy pregnancies, MFHS helps people make informed choices about family planning and contraception. High-quality, accessible and confidential reproductive health and related preventive care is provided to all, and low-cost or free care is provided to those who qualify. MFHS also offers telehealth, so it’s easier than ever for people to access reproductive care services — and even have birth control delivered right to their door — without even leaving their home.
