If you are like me, you are constantly struggling with ideas of what to get the kids for holiday gifts. Even with the Pre-Christmas clear out of the playroom, closets, and every toy box, they still just DO NOT need more toys. I want to keep the magic of Christmas alive with my kids and love seeing the excitement on their faces as they open their gifts, but I cannot stand the thought of buying a ton of new toys they don't need. Over the last few years experience gifts have become a lot more popular and I would highly recommend giving the gift of WICKED on broadway in NYC this year!
This magical broadway show has an amazing backstory of some of our favorite characters from Oz and is absolutely one of my favorites. As an avid Wizard of Oz fan, I first saw this show in London in 2010 as a birthday gift from my now husband. He knew I would love the show so much he planned our engagement after the performance. When the amazing show ended, he asked me to stay back in the theater so he could get a photo of me with the stage behind it. When he got down on one knee, for what I thought was a better photo angle I was completely shocked to see a ring in his hand instead of a camera! Needless to say, I said yes and WICKED became even more of an amazing experience for me and my family!
The show is so great, I went on to take my mother, and then later my sisters to see it with me a well. I couldn't wait to take my daughters, and it was truly an amazing experience to finally see this show with them. My 8 year old was so immersed in the performance, she didn't miss a single laugh at the witty jokes of Glinda and clapped and cheered at all the right places. My 6 year old marveled at the amazing set, beautiful lights, colors, and costumes in the show, and also had a few great laughs. They both found the entire experience truly magical! My daughter even commented at one point "This is so good I keep forgetting they are real people!"
WICKED, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked”.
If you are worried about shipping delays this year, or like me you just do not want a ton of new toys in your house, give the gift of WICKED. The performance runs 8 times a week in NYC. The best prices are for performances are from January to March, so it's the perfect holiday gift for a performance in the winter.
