There are so many ways to involve our children in the preservation and appreciation of our earth on Earth Day and everyday!

1. Get Involved Check Out Your Local Macaroni Kid Event's Calendar to find local events being hosted in your area
These events often include education on ways we impact the earth on a daily basis, volunteer work such as picking up garbage, as well as crafts and actives from our local libraries. Check out your local Events Calendar for Earth Day happenings this week!
2. Talk about conservation at home with your children
There are many simple ways we can include our children in conservation efforts around the house. Encourage them to turn off lights when they leave a room as well as the TV and other electronics. Talk to them about why it is important to turn off the water when it's not being used between brushing teeth, washing dishes, having shower and baths. Teach them about recyclables and include them in sorting recycling and garbage in the home.

3. Reduce Food Waste
Involve the whole family in a planning effort to help reduce food waste. By planning meals and grocery shopping lists as a family, you can not only reduce food waste with accurate meal purchasing and planning but also improve meal time with kids by involving them in the planning/ food choice process. 4. Plant a Garden
Planning and Planting a garden with your family is a great way to celebrate Earth Day! Growing your own fruits, vegetables, and herbs as a family can help instill responsibility and feelings of accomplishment within your children. 5. Clean-Up Garbage in Your Area
There are many local "Clean-up" efforts in the spring and around Earth Day in your area, sign up your family for an organized clean-up or organize your own! You can set-up a neighborhood or community wide street clean-up or make a simple family outing to a local public park or playground to pick up and dispose of garbage.
If you are interested in organizing your own "Clean-Up" event you can register here on the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Website and as part of the Pick Up Pennsylvania Campaign. Pick Up Pennsylvania is part of the national Great American Cleanup from March 1st through May 31st. Communities are being asked to organize and conduct local cleanups – recruit volunteers, promote your event, and report your results for inclusion in statewide and national cleanup totals.
- March 1st through May 31st. Our spring event in support of The Great American Cleanup is eligible for FREE work gloves, safety vests, and trash bags as supplies last. Donated landfill space for trash collected during the cleanup is also available for free or reduced cost between April 1st through April 30th.
