A Note from Your New Publisher

Greetings and Salutations

By Joey Lynn Walko August 6, 2020

Hey there! I almost began this note with the words, “So just let me introduce myself”, but then my brain started singing the Humpty Dance which I obviously had to watch on YouTube. I started to reminisce about the music of my teenage years which led me down a rabbit hole of watching videos from the best era of music- the 90s. Fast forward a few hours later and I’m ready to introduce myself now.

First I want to say hello and thank you for being here. My name is Joey (I was named after my dad, Joseph) and I am the new publisher for the Wilkes-Barre Macaroni Kid website. I was born and raised in Dallas and moved around throughout the valley for the past 20 or so years. I have a four-year-old son who is my world and he keeps me on my toes every day.  I previously was the publisher for the North Poconos/Hazleton website before Karen handed over the reins to me at the beginning of the month. I hope to make the transition as smooth as possible but please bear with me the first week or two while we work out the kinks and everything gets flowing. Beginning next week, my newsletter will hit your mailbox every Wednesday at 2:05 PM.

I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself. I love animals. I have a dog and two cats and wish my other half would allow me to adopt every dog who needs a home. I love music and dancing although my dance moves are the same as they were thirty years ago. I find peace in gardening and I love cooking. Like, I reaallllly LOVE cooking and baking and even just prepping food and cutting vegetables. Our family follows a plant-based diet and I love creating new meals and desserts we can all enjoy. If you have a favorite plant-based recipe shoot me an email at joeyw@macaronikid.com, I’d love to try them! Heck, you could even send me a non plant-based recipe and I will try to figure out how to veganize it.

My event calendar will stay filled with a variety of events for your family whether it’s an in person event or something you could attend virtually. I will always add local content in my free weekly e-newsletter like articles about our local business owners and their businesses, adoptable pets of the week, season guides, playground reviews and more. I like giveaways and I hope you do too because I will be adding those over the next few months with one very, very soon.

So sit back, relax, and let me find some fun in the Wilkes-Barre area for you and your family.
