Pound Puppies Pound Party at the SPCA of Luzerne County

The Original Pound Puppies are Back!

December 2nd is National Mutt Day and what better way to celebrate than a Pound Puppies Pound Party at the SPCA of Luzerne County.  Pound Puppies has teamed up with Adopt-a-Pet.com to raise awareness about pet adoption and help homeless pets go from alone to adopted.  Local families joined Macaroni Kid Wilkes-Barre in making signs to hang on the dog cages at the shelter in an effort to encourage families to adopt them.  They also made treats for the dogs in the shelter.  Patrons were asked to bring much-needed donations for the SPCA to the party in an attempt to give back to the community.  Blankets, food, cat litter, bleach, and other items were among those items donated.

Chelsea Feldman, a representative of the SPCA, talked to the kids about how the shelter operates, the importance of adopting from the shelter,  and even took them on a tour to see the animals and give them the treats the kids made.  The dogs devoured the treats made out of peanut butter, oats, and cinnamon sandwiched between mini bones.

After the tour, each of the kids was excited to "adopt" their very own newborn Pound Puppy.   Remember them from when we were kids? The original toy from the 1980s is back!  They look and feel just as you remember them from your childhood (if you are as old as I am).  There are six different Pound Puppies you can choose from and they each come with a nametag, stickers, and a collectors card.  They also come with an official adoption certificate.  The newborn puppies are so adorable in their little diapers.  All the kids named their new puppies and filled out their adoption certificates.  One lucky family was drawn from all those that attended to take home a larger, adult Pound Puppy.   I heard they named her Oreo.

Then, Pablo, the SPCA mascot, and Bully (an adorable Pit Bull puppy that is almost ready for adoption.  Hint hint!) made an appearance to entertain the kids and join them for a photo shoot.  Bully loved the attention from all the kids and the kids loved dishing it out to her.  I'm sure she slept really well that night.  The kids too!  They loved naming their new best friends and were so excited to take them home to cuddle.

Every week, Macaroni Kid Wilkes-Barre features a couple of the animals available for adoption at the SPCA of Luzerne County.  Please be sure to check out and share our weekly article.  You never know who is looking for a new addition to their family.  Here is this week's article
