GIVEAWAY - Fly Away to Neverland with Peter Pan the Musical

Win 4 Admission Tickets to See the Show

May 7, 2019

In September of 2018, forty-three students entered the doors of Misericordia University’s Lemmond Theater. Auditions for Peter Pan the Musical were set to begin and students were scurrying up to the stage to begin introductions. “Welcome to auditions for Peter Pan the Musical- congratulations you all have been cast!” exclaimed producer Caitlyn Mayer.

Three months earlier Take the Stage Center for the Performing Arts, located in Dallas, acquired the appropriate licenses from International Theater and Music to produce “Peter Pan the Musical.” Only four other theater companies in the country were approved to perform the show. International Theater and Music (ITM), is based out of London and had direct contact with Take the Stage’s theater education program to help with the creative process of the show.

Take the Stage started presenting full stage musicals in 2017 and offers a unique theater education by focusing on each individual student and introducing their students to all aspects of theater. Starting from the minute a student enters auditions for a show they are learning something new. Each person is automatically cast in a show and begins their journey as an actor in a musical.

For six months students spent hours each weekend learning lines, blocking, choreography, and songs for the 3 Act play. Each rehearsal was filled with hard work and dedication but there was no lack of laughter and fun. Hundreds of hours have culminated in Take the Stage presenting Peter Pan the Musical on May 25th and 26th.

The musical follows the traditional tale of Peter Pan as he meets the Darling children and teaches them to fly to Neverland. There they help to fight Captain Hook and his band of Pirates. The producer, Caitlyn, really wanted to incorporate the Broadway-style into the production and had a blast bringing in outside experts to add that extra education for their students. The Pocono YMCA joined the cast for a Saturday to teach the proper techniques of fencing and the Natives spent an afternoon researching Native Americans and their traditions and culture. “That is one of the neatest things that Take the Stage does, they offer education on the play and the characters to make sure that the students really understand who they are playing. There is no other place that takes such time to make sure they do the students and show justice,” stated a parent.

In the next few weeks, the cast will finish up their rehearsals and begin tech week at Misericordia University. On Saturday, May 25th at 7 pm the curtain will open and all 43 students will take the stage for their opening performance. Take the Stage and its entire Theater Education Program invite you to come share the experience of Peter Pan the Musical. As only one of four theaters able to produce this show in the US, this is a one of a kind show and playing for two days only. So, come away to Neverland with Peter Pan and the entire cast!
