Springtime Skin Care

Warmer weather is here and I couldn't be more excited! The Spring season brings a freshness that has us cleaning up indoors and out, but have you given thought to how the change in seasons is impacting your complexion? The fact is your skin needs different pampering for different seasons, so it’s time to swap out your winter routine for fresher formulas. Here’s a list of what to look for in your skin care products as we head into the warmer weather.





Slough off dry winter layers with an exfoliant to help skin breathe. All those dead skin cells can clog your pores and lead to seasonal breakouts. Stick with products that offer naturally based ingredients. A mild exfoliant that uses eco-beads is a good choice. If your skin is feeling super sensitive, chose a creamy cleanser with ginseng to gently cleanse and invigorate, clearing pores without drying. 




Your body could use a bit of gentle polishing as we leave the colder, drying months behind. Remembering to exfoliate before you shave helps your razor get closer to skin’s surface, resulting in smoother legs, and is an essential step to prepare your skin neck to toes before using a sunless tanner. 





Warmer weather likely means more time outdoors, which is great for our mood, but not so much for our complexion. The environment exposes skin to all sorts of pollutants, plus UVA/UVB rays, all of which contribute to the free radical damage that makes our skin look old. Boost your skin's natural defenses with a lightweight facial serum and body creme full of antioxidant vitamin C, which supports collagen and reverses the appearance of premature aging. Your best option is one packed with fruit and botanical extracts for deep nourishment your skin will love.





Following your serum with sunscreen (hopefully you are doing this already) is essential for spring and summer when you’re more likely to be exposed to sun damage, which is the number one culprit of wrinkles, fine lines, and dark spots. Apply a dime-sized amount every morning, and reapply if you’re sweating, swimming, or spending long periods of time in the sun (especially between 10 AM and 2 PM). Naturally based sunscreens are best. For the face, look for one with SPF 30 plus aloe vera to help hydrate skin, with a dose of antioxidant vitamin C.





As the temperatures rise, your complexion tends to appear oilier and your skin craves lighter hydration to feel refreshed. Look for water-based ingredients like sodium hyaluronate and glycerin, which quench thirsty skin without adding more oil, and swap out your heavier face crème to help keep pores clear. For the body, put away thick body butters and look for ones with whipped, lightweight textures, or opt for a body crème instead.
